Attention is invited to Notification No. 3(RE-2000)/97-2000 dated 31.03.2000. As per para 4 of the said notification import of Raw Silk (Not thrown) and Silk Yarn under Exim Code Nos. 500200 00, 500400 00, 500500 00, 500600 00 have been allowed to be imported against surrender of SIL.

Representations have been received seeking clarifications, whether these imports are permitted through specified ports, whether the grade of Silk is to be verified before clearance by nominated agencies and whether Silk other than Mulberry Silk is also allowed to be imported against surrender of SIL.

In this regard it is hereby clarified that the conditions as imposed on import of Mulberry Silk vide Notification No. 7 (RE-99) dated 13.05.99 & vide Notification No. 9(RE-99) dated 19.05.99 shall not be applicable on imports made under the conditions of Notification No. 3 (RE-2000) dated 31.03.2000. It is further clarified that import of all type of Raw Silk and Silk Yarn as classifiable under the above mentioned Exim Code Nos . shall be allowed to be imported against surrender of SIL.

This issues with approval of Director General of Foreign Trade.
